Anglesey
Anglesey, an island that will inspire you
Safe and clean beaches. Spectacular scenery. Excellent sports facilities. A riveting history, and an atmosphere all of its own. It is an island which has everything.
The spectacular and diverse nature of Anglesey's coastline has long attracted a wide variety of visitors all year round. Most of the coastal area is classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and we hold cleanliness awards for 26 of our beaches, representing 10% of all Award Winning beaches in the United Kingdom.
Whatever type of beach you prefer there is an ideal place for you along our long and varied coastline. Whether you are looking for sun drenched sand for a leisurely picnic, a refreshing swim, fun with the family or a bracing walk look no further.
Dedicated beach lovers can choose from the long sandy beaches such as Llanddwyn and Red Wharf Bay or the more intimate coves of Porth Swtan or Moelfre. There are many safe family beaches with rock pools, convenient shops and cafes such as Benllech and Cemaes. While a quiet drive along the coast can reveal all sorts of unusual treasures like Cable Bay with its impressive Stone Age burial chamber, Barclodiad y Gawres, perched on the rocks above the tiny inlet. You could even discover a church in the sea at Porth Cwyfan!
If you prefer more active water pursuits such as windsurfing, water sking, canoeing or sailing there are facilities and slipways all around the island. Trearddur Bay and Rhosneigr are renowned for their water sports and there are yachting facilities in Beaumaris and Holyhead.
