The inaugural ‘Team Irfon’ Christmas Concert was held last Friday, 7th December, 2018 at Bangor Cathedral.

It was a sold out event, with no empty seats and a crowd of over 100 people watched the festive spectacle.

Dafydd Hardy were proud sponsors of the event, raising money for Team Irfon and Awyr Las.

Team Irfon was launched in 2014 when Irfon Williams, who worked as a Mental Health Services Nurse Manager, was diagnosed with bowel cancer and began starting his treatment at the Alaw Unit of Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.

Irfon started by raising money to buy wigs for people receiving chemotherapy on Alaw Unit and his charitable deeds began to garner recognition, leading to his campaign strengthening and alongside his supporters, Irfon raised a tremendous £150,000 to improve services and mental health care for those going through a Cancer diagnoses, and their families.

The concert for ‘Team Irfon’ was an evening of spectacular cheer, with performances from Rhys Meirion, Cor Glanaethwy and the Menai Bridge Brass Band. While it was a night of remembrance, it was most importantly a night to celebrate Irfon’s life and reflect on all the fantastic work that Awyr Las has done to improve the lives of so many.

Irfon’s legacy lives on, and his wife Becky now oversees #TeamIrfon alongside Manon, a Matron from cancer services. Together Becky and Manon, working closely with NHS staff and committed volunteers and supporters of all ages, are ensuring that donations given to #TeamIrfon continue to help local people in the way that Irfon always wished them to be and that local people can go on enjoying community focussed fundraising events and activities which promote fun, laughter and team spirit – exactly as Irfon always intended.

Irfon’s family will continue to uphold his legacy by working alongside #TeamIrfon. Becky, his wife, still oversees the charity, working closely with NHS staff and volunteers to ensure that the donations for this wonderful cause continue to help those who need it the most.

Dafydd Hardy said: "It was a fantastic event, with talented musicians and a lot of festive cheer! We are proud to sponsor such a worthy cause and hope to continue to support Awyr Las as they continue their amazing work."
